The Internship

KGB Aviation Solutions is seeking college interns to join its Software Verification & Assurance (SV&A) team during the Summer of 2027. These paid, on-site internships will give students practical exposure to how high-reliability aviation software is developed, verified, and prepared for release within a disciplined engineering environment.

Working alongside experienced engineers, interns will strengthen their understanding of the software development lifecycle, embedded and system-level verification, requirements traceability, technical documentation, and evidence-based engineering decisions. Specific project assignments and areas of focus will be discussed directly with candidates during the interview process.

What Interns Will Learn and Experience

Interns will receive defined engineering objectives, access to relevant resources, and periodic guidance and technical review from experienced engineers. They will be expected to independently research unfamiliar topics, develop an approach, manage their progress, communicate obstacles, and deliver documented results.

Through their project initiatives, interns may:

• Independently learn and apply structured software-development, traceability, and process-assurance practices.
• Evaluate engineering workflows and identify opportunities to improve automation, testing, reporting, security, and consistency.
• Participate in embedded-software and system-verification activities, including structured testing, results analysis, and technical troubleshooting.
• Learn how requirements, expected behavior, test activities, and objective evidence support release-qualification decisions.
• Present findings, incorporate technical feedback, and produce documentation that allows completed work to be understood and continued by others.

Minimum Qualifications

Written technical documentation is a core part of this internship and an expected engineering deliverable. Interns must document their work as it is performed so that findings can be reviewed, understood, and reproduced by another engineer without relying on verbal explanation.

• Current college student or equivalent aligned experience.
• Programming experience applicable to software, embedded, or systems engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with at least one scripting language, including the ability to read, write, modify, and troubleshoot scripts.
• Exposure to operating-system concepts, embedded platforms, or system-level testing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical-writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to create clear, accurate, and timely technical records describing the objective, environment or configuration, actions performed, evidence collected, results observed, and conclusions reached.
• Ability to write complete, step-by-step reproduction procedures that allow another engineer to recreate the setup, repeat the work, and independently confirm a reported finding.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions exactly and produce organized, traceable work.
• Ability to work independently after receiving appropriate technical direction and review.
• Ability to work fully on-site in East Aurora, New York, for the agreed internship term.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; students who will have completed at least two years of study by May 2027 are strongly preferred.
• Applicants from other academic programs, or with other aligned technical experience, are encouraged to apply.
• Understanding of embedded-systems concepts, including hardware-software interaction, interfaces, resource constraints, and system-level behavior.
• Prior hands-on experience developing, integrating, testing, or troubleshooting an embedded or hardware-integrated system through coursework, personal projects, student teams, research, internships, or employment.
• Familiarity with one or more of the following: version control, software build or release workflows, software testing, requirements traceability, engineering automation, artificial intelligence, or cybersecurity principles.
• Prior experience creating technical procedures, test reports, issue tickets with reproducible steps, project documentation, or other objective engineering evidence.

Work Schedule and Employment Conditions

• Each intern will work an agreed schedule of minimum 20 and up to 40 hours per week. Individual internships may be part-time or full-time.
• Work must occur on-site during weekdays. Remote and weekend schedules are not available.
• Requested weekly hours, preferred workdays, and weekday availability will be discussed during the interview process.
• The final schedule will be based on the student’s availability and KGB’s operating needs and will be agreed upon before the internship begins. Once established, it will be the intern’s regular weekly schedule.
• Interns must provide at least two weeks’ notice of any known scheduling conflict. Schedule adjustments are subject to advance approval and business needs.
• Schedule expectations for company-observed holidays or office closures will be communicated in advance.
• Internship employment is at will.
• Any offer may be contingent upon successful completion of lawful post-offer screening, which may include drug testing.

Anticipated Selection Timeline

• Qualified applicants may be contacted during the application period.
• Interviews are expected to take place during October and November 2026.
• KGB expects to issue written internship offers during December 2026.

What You’ll Do:

• Assemble, test, and repair electronic and mechanical devices
• Perform soldering and basic circuit checks
• Troubleshoot technical issues and follow schematics accurately
• Ensure all products meet quality and safety standards
• Collaborate with the production team to meet assembly timelines and product specifications
• Follow standardized production procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with quality standards

Qualifications and Skills:

• Soldering and Circuit Analysis – Proficient in soldering techniques and analyzing electrical circuits for functionality and integrity
• Manual Dexterity – Strong hand-eye coordination and precision in assembling complex
